American Airlines is on its way to becoming the favorite among American based airline carriers. With the introduction of its basic economy fare last year, they have forced other carriers to drop price on certain routes as well.
Charlotte is American’s second-largest hub. To ensure they are keeping Charlotte based flyers happy, the airline recently announced the addition of increased routes and new destinations.
According to a memo that was shared with me, they will operate over 700 flights out of Charlotte by end of 2019.
“With new gates opening at the end of this year, increases in frequencies on popular routes, new international service and a renovated Admirals Club, there’s so much to look forward to in Charlotte,” said Vasu Raja, Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning for American. “We’ll continue to be the best airline with the most choices in Charlotte for business and leisure customers.”
“This is an exciting time for our 11,500 Charlotte-based team members and our customers,” said Dec Lee, Vice President of Charlotte Hub Operations. “We are creating a world-class customer experience, providing access to more than 160 destinations in 23 countries.”
The airline plans to increase service to the following cities from CLT: Baltimore-Washington (BWI), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO), New Jersey (EWR), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), and New York (JFK). This means more flight time options for passengers traveling to these destinations from Charlotte.
The biggest announcement from the airline was that they will add a route from Charlotte to Munich, Germany beginning March 30. While Munich may not be a first choice when it comes to traveling to Europe, it provides a route that will allow you to easily city hop once there. This new international flight option will come with some added enhancements for business-class and premium passengers, including elevated meals and drinks.
In my next post, I’ll bring you an inside look into the new and improved Admiral’s Club located at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The new lounge re-opened on Wednesday, February 20.
Stay tuned.
