Tokyo, Japan is one of the world’s most expensive destinations. However, there is so much to see and do around this tech forward city.
To get an authentic look into classic Tokyo you should make your way over to the Harajuku neighborhood. While you are there, be sure to check out these hotspots:
Kawaii Monster Café: When you walk in the door of this café, you immediately get sensory overload. From the bright rainbow colors to the bass pumping music playing you won’t know which way to turn. The café is split into 4 sections, each with a different theme. In order to visit this café, you must sit down to eat from the semi pricey menu. I can guarantee that it is worth it. Even your food will come out rainbow colored.
Condomania: This adult store will bring lots of laughs more than anything. With hundreds of varieties of contraception, you can see protection from all over the world.
Tokyo Plaza Omotesando Harajuku: This shopping plaza aims to be a fashion theme park where every customer can enjoy the trendiest fashion. The selling point for most visitors is the “kaleidoscope” escalators at the entrance of the plaza. Take your perfect photo as you look up to see yourself reflecting throughout the entire ceiling.
Takeshita Street: This pedestrian street is full of restaurants, street food, Tokyo shopping, and souvenirs. It is crowded pretty much all day so be sure to get there early if you don’t want to deal with the crowds. While you are there try one of the infamous crepes at one of the many vendors. You can also watch in amazement as vendors spin together futuristic looking rainbow cotton candy on stick.
Ichiran Ramen: You can’t go to Japan and not have ramen. Why not eat some of the most famous ramen in Tokyo. There is typically a wait out of the building, but it moves fast. Begin by placing your order on the vending machine outside and wait to be seated. Once you are seated at your private window, you can fill out the slip to make customizations to your meal. Once your meal is ready, chefs slide your piping hot bowl of ramen through a private window and then leave you in peace to enjoy your food.
